DJ Logo tips: Do’s And Don’ts

Your DJ logo represents your DJ business’s brand through a graphic, it has to speak to the client and essentially convey a thousand words in one image.

Your DJ Logo also brings recognition to yourself and/or your company. It will become the identity of your Mobile DJ business and you (if you’re a club DJ, you ARE the brand!). If you’re not a proficient designer, don’t create your DJ logo yourself. It’s worth the money to hire a true professional designer to do it right.

Once you’ve selected or created a logo, you never want to change it (save for some minor tweaks over time). In order to create or select a DJ Logo properly you should understand the effectiveness.

We’ve put together these DJ Logo tips to help you to create the perfect identity for you and your company or brand.

The basic rules of logo design

When you are developing a DJ logo, or working with a designer to create one for you or your business, you want to stick to the basic rules of logo design. Your DJ logo should be describable and simple; it should remain identifiable even without color. It should also be memorable and scalable (resizable without pixilation for use on banners, posters or the like). Your DJ logo could also convey “DJ”, although not necessarily a requirement. Any logo not following these rules will fail to become a great DJ logo.

KEEP IT SIMPLE – FLAT IS BETTER. Here are some “good” DJ logo examples:

Don’t overdo it

When working with a designer on ideas for your DJ logo it is helpful to understand generally why some logos fail and why another logo becomes permanently entrenched in our brains. Nike’s logo is a prime example of a hugely successful design. It is very simple, yet conveys their brands message.

COMPLICATED DJ LOGO DESIGNS. Here are some “not so good” DJ logo examples:

Leave color out until you feel you’re finished with the design

Some not-so-savvy graphic designers may color in your DJ logo right from the start. Color is excellent for conveying your company/brand message and grabbing people’s attention, but it should always come at the end of the design process. If you color your design from the get-go, you won’t be able to focus on the design itself.

A DJ logo should be flat and identifiable with or without any color. You should be able to see the image in black just as easily with color for instance, with all components of the design viewable. In my “not so good” examples I included above, you can see that a solid color was used the logos would be un-identifiable.

Using Fonts Properly

For your DJ Logo you want to keep font variations to a minimum. You should stick to two font selections maximum. Simply put, if you use more than two fonts in your logotype it will look ugly. For club jocks, you may want to use a more “tech” looking font, or otherwise a completely unique design for your typeface. Superstar DJ Tiesto’s logo is a prime example of this.

Text size

Since your DJ logo has to look great when scaled to any size, such as a miniscule one inch, you or your designer will want to make sure you are using a proper text size. The DJ logo should remain clearly visible and readable even if it is trimmed down to the size of a thumbnail.

Remember, in this age of in-your-face media image is everything. Clients will select a mobile DJ company based solely on image. Follow the rules and your DJ logo will be endearing, memorable and timeless_Click here for tips regarding your DJ website_
